Who needs a Czech Republic work visa or permit?

Citizens from EU/EEA/Switzerland do not require any Czech Republic work visa to live or work in Czech Republic. However, those who come to work in Czech Republic for longer than six months need a Residence Certificate .

Most non-EU nationals will need a Czech Republic work permit before they can undertake employment in Czech Republic. In the majority of cases, a Czech Republic work permit is only available to non-EU nationals with a job offer or if the individual is married to a Czech Republic citizen. If approved, they can continue the process of obtaining a Czech Republic work visa or residence permit. After five years of residence in Czech Republic, you can claim Czech Republic permanent residence, and also Czech Republic citizenship after six years. In either case, you will not require a work permit but are free on the employment market.

Czech Republic work permit Application

EU/EFTA nationals only need to apply for a Residence Certificate from the Czech Republic Immigration and Borders Service along with your Czech Republic work visa  if they are working in Czech Republic for longer than three months.Third-country nationals will need to apply for a Czech Republic work visa at the embassy or consulate in their home country, once they have received confirmation that their employer’s application for a Czech Republic work permit has been granted.

 

 
Along with your Czech Republic  work visa application form, you will need to provide the following:

  • Passport photo

  • Passport and copies of your previous visas

  • Flight reservation details (although not always)

  • Medical insurance policy covering expenses up to €30,000

  • Proof of accommodation

  • Employment contract between you and your Portugal employer

Your Czech Republic work visa is valid for the length of time you’re working in Czech Republic, or long enough to lodge your application for a Czech Republic residence visa. Applications can take from two weeks to around two to three months in total.
